Awaiting Self Injury Awareness Day

I'm gonna post a poem to two...or some things Ive written at various times since March 1 is self injury awareness day. If any of you other self injurers post anything on the topic, please let me know in the comments so I can check it out.

Hiding it down deep
Where I know that you wont look
Burning from within
This is not a dream
The red says I am living
The calm comes over me now
I am still alive
The darkness will soon close in
I'll wait for it here

Thank you, Jil.

In group today, one of our regulars came in with a black eye. She told us that she'd become so angry and frustrated about being in a depression that she stood in front of a mirror and slugged herself until she did some damage. Her husband, she said, didn't understand and was terrified for her.

At break, I went to talk with her. After listening to her, asked her if her husband had done it. She looked me in the eye and just shook her head, tears brimming. Held her hand tightly, nodded that I understood. "I had to ask the question, you know." She nodded and took down my phone number.

Poor woman, poor husband. It's hard, very hard on them both.

Another blogger once wrote about how he came home to find his wife bleeding from all the cuts. He just wiped up the blood, bandaged the wounds, and said "Oh honey. Oh honey."

I don't always understand some of the things we do to ourselves, but I believe in the humanity of those who cut, pinch, poke, pick, and slug themselves....

Love you, Jil. You are brave to keep going in this strange life of ours.

I've been there. I don't do it anymore. I usually light a candle, sit in the dark, and chill out instead.

It's here--SIAD! I have an CSA survivor website and blog. But, I never got up the courage to write anything about my SI until I found out that SIAD was coming. I just put an SIAD post on my blog with some links. Awareness. It is a good thing!
